Recent blockbuster film in Brazil : The story of Olga Benario Prestes and her husband Luis Carlos Prestes. Brazilian German Olga was born in Germany, the daughter of rich Jewish immigrants. She sides with the communist cause during the rise of Fascism in Europe and eventually moves to Russia to help the party. The party sends her to protect captain Carlos Prestes, by posing as his wife on a transatlantic voyage to Brazil. Once in Brazil, this envoi of the communist party initiates a revolution. The revolution fails and the two lovers are fugitives. When captured, they discover that Olga is pregnant. The Brazilian government splits the family up, putting Prestes in prison, the baby in the hands of his mother and sister and offering Olga to Hitler to be finally gassed in a Nazi concentration camp. The story follows Olga on this journey, underlining her strength, the great sadness of this time in History, and the fact even Brazil was affected by the Holocaust. The decor and costumes and choice of film are off. The quality of the film comes off a bit like propaganda due to these illogical choices for the very best and very newest materials with which to make the picture. However, the story in itself is extremely moving as is the acting. The two are enough to make you gasp for breath when once again asked to consider this time in history.
